From my experience as a professional adviser in the field of interior design I have meet a lot of creative ideas that can be applied for those who like a desk. There are corner desks, massive straight ones, with creative shapes, etc. It all depends on two things:
1. What is the purpose that you like to use your desk for? Some people really need it for working while others use their desk as an item that creates a part of their image (directors, etc)
2. What is interior design style of the rest of the room where you are going to place the desk.
Now, let’s have a closer look at the most common types for a computer desk:
Computer Desk from IKEA
Do you know why I like IKEA? They are modern, cheap, functional, easy-to-install and stylish. Well, what do you actually need? Isn’t it just the things that I have already mentioned? Think about it!
Corner computer desk
I find them appropriate for home and not office use. How many times have a seen an office with corner desks? Well, yes – there may be some exceptions but mainly you will find those types of desks inside kids room or masculine cabinets. One of the main advantages of these types is that they not only fill the empty corner spaces but they also provide additional space to the usual shape of a desks.
Small computer desk
Well, these are actually not very practical for office use, but yet they find some applications there. For example, some people need just a small surface where to put their writing materials while they are displaying a presentation or something like this. I mean, a small computer desk is useful when you don’t spend the entire day on it. On the other hand, these are very handy in small homes where usually the free space is limited.
White computer desk
White is universal color and as a such it can easily fit into many types of interior designs – modern, contemporary, vintage, shabby chic, eclectic, etc. Just have in mind that if you have a traditional, classic or rustic home, the white modern surfaces may not be the best choice.
Black computer desk
Black is the color preferred when someone wants to add a luxurious note in the office. I have been in one really impressive luxurious office with very dark inner parts and the entire furniture was in black. The company is a famous high tech brand and the design of the office was amazing!
Glass computer desk
Glass in combination with metal finishes is a real trend these days. You can find this type of glass desk in both places – at home and in office designs. The good thing about glass is that it can easily be transformed into liquid shapes and thus it can add an extraordinary and fantastic look in your office.
Computer desk with hutch
Again, you’d better have then in home because of the style and the space they require. The thing about them is that they provide additional storage options for those who like to have their contracts, writings, notes and books at hand.
L shaped computer desk
They are actually part of the corner desks because you will surely never see an L shaped desk in the middle of the room. As I have already said, every rule has its exception but when we are talking about L structures I am sure that they belong near the wall. Everything said about the corner desks is also valid here and the best thing about them is that you have enough surface for some serious work.
