Insider Tips on How to Give Your Patio the Ultimate Makeover

Posted by: Founterior , October 15, 2021

Decorating (or re-decorating, for that matter) your patio requires a lot of time, patience, and experimentation. Design and function will, of course, be at the forefront of everything you do as you transform your drab outdoor space into a fun and exciting new hangout spot for your friends and family.

Yes, it’s going to be a lot of work, but it will all pay off once you’re sitting idly by in your new patio furniture, basking in the beauty of your new space. Whether you’re creating a new spot for regular get-togethers or just itching for a brand new look, here are a few tips on how you can design your patio like a pro.

1. Add some flair

One of the best parts about being in charge of decorating is that you have all the creative freedom you need! Express your creativity and inner vision however you like – thinking outside of the box and don’t be afraid to add some flair to the area.

Whatever theme you’ve decided to go with, it might help to place some exotic decor or a bright, beautiful piece of art that will catch everyone’s eye. It may be daunting to go wild with style, but you’ll soon come to find that your new decor brings about a whole new sense of life and energy into your patio.

2. Mix and match

Designing any space will naturally involve a lot of mixing and matching, especially with regards to colours and furniture. It’s not much different than adding an eclectic flair – mixing and matching pieces will instantly give your patio a refreshing sense of style and cohesion. You can easily achieve this by playing with common elements and themes, such as matching materials and patterns, coordinating design finishes, and pairing a classic theme with contemporary furniture.

3. Measurements matter

This is a factor that is commonly overlooked by many. Knowing the measurements of the space you’re about to decorate is absolutely crucial. Getting the sizes of the floor area is especially important when picking out furniture pieces. It will also help narrow down your choices, as it keeps you informed of which options are actually quite literally the perfect fit for your space.

Consider the number of people that you expect will be using the furniture as well. The last thing you want to do is make the place feel cramped. Don’t let the furniture take up all the space; leave enough room for your guests (and yourself) to feel comfortable.

Plus, here’s a design tip to keep in mind: larger items make a smaller area feel bigger, while packing in lots of furniture and small design accents tends to make a space look cluttered.

4. Invest in your furniture

It’s only right to be picky with the furniture you’re going to put in your home. In fact, take all the time you need in this step, as the choices you make here are going to stick with you for a long time.

Style and design should obviously play a huge part, but make sure that you don’t skimp on the functionality of it all. For an outdoor space, you’re going to need something sturdy and durable, something that will stay intact even after being exposed to outside elements such as the sun, rain, dust, and wind.

Furniture made from inferior material is not going to stick around for very long, so we advise you to invest in your furniture. Go with the strong, tough, and of course, stylish choice.
