FOR ARTISTIC THINKING
LaboBrain is a snow white studio specially designed for David Edwards, founder of the experimental centre for art and design Laboratoire in Paris. Mathieu Lehanneur, the author of the project, conceived the idea of LaboBrain as a sports hall for intellectual exercises. The ordinary working station with a chair and a desk is absent in here – Edwards works, moving to and fro, before a huge curved white board onto the smooth surface of which he sketches ideas and drawings. The personality of the owner – a self-taught theoretician-architect, is projected in every detail of the project, which brings together impressions of science, art and design.
A large leather pouf with geometrical elements invites for rest and a breath of air between two ‘‘workouts”, and the small garden under the floor grate supplies the room with fresh air and brings a piece of nature into the closed interior space. At the room’s other end are the desk and the chair of David’s assistant, representing the rational part for the organization and arrangement. There the attention is attracted by a sloping wall of perfectly stacked carton boxes and, of course, the box, which collects everything – the white iMac. The main space accommodates the metal parallelepiped cabinets, decorated in wafer patterns. They call to mind a New York pop style luxury bent by Italian designer codes – chic, stained and shiny.
