Why You Should Upgrade Your Plumbing & Fixtures

If your home has old plumbing in it, it could mean problems. While kitchen sinks can last 50 years, kitchen and bathroom faucets 15 or more, they do eventually wear out – and even before that time, you may want a change of style!

If you want to do a full or partial plumbing and fixtures renovation on your Australian home – click on the link to find the best plumber Sydney! A big part of giving a facelift to the kitchen and bathroom(s) is upgrading and modernizing your sinks, dishwasher, faucets, spray nozzles, toilet, tub, shower stall, and any other appliance that uses water.

But before you can make the decision and catch a vision that will motivate you to carry through on it, you’re going to need to know exactly why it’s worthwhile to upgrade your home’s plumbing and fixtures. Here are 5 good reasons why:

1. Avoid Plumbing Problems

Old, outdated plumbing pipes that have corroded at points, have weakened at the joints, and may be leaching rust into the water stream need to be replaced. Make sure your plumbing is up to code and is performing well. If your home’s piping is over 50 years old, consider getting an upgrade to avoid bigger problems down the road.

2. Increase Your Home’s Value

Aside from upgrading pipes, the more usual upgrades are made by upgrading sinks, faucets, garbage disposals, bathtubs, toilets, showerheads, and other fixtures and appliances. This immediately increases your quality of life as you enjoy the upgrades from day to day. However, it also raises the resale value of your home. In fact, 85% of the costs of renovations to bathrooms and kitchens are recouped when a home is sold.

3. Reduce Water Waste

If you are concerned to “save the environment” or if you just hate the idea of wasting water, installing newer, smarter fixtures can help you accomplish that goal. Low-flow aerators can attach to faucets to reduce waste, and low-flow showerheads can accomplish the same thing in the shower – without reducing your water pressure if you get a top-tier brand. Newer toilets also save water (3.5 gallons per flush versus 5 gallons.)

4. More Convenient Sinks

No one likes squishing a pot under a low hanging faucet in a too-small sink. Who can stand using a spray nozzle that is hard to control? Or not having enough room in the sink when doing dishes? What about a faucet that only needs one handle instead of two or a no-handle faucet that works by a sensor or that you just tap for hot or cold water flow to start? Today’s plumbing fixtures offer that and much more in the way of convenience.

5. Boosted Aesthetics

Looks may not be essential, but they certainly can help create a more settled mood in a room, add a touch of class, and complement the surroundings to create a unified style and ambiance. Brushed nickel, copper, or brass faucets and fixtures, along with a stainless steel kitchen sink – OR, a sleek, wall-hung porcelain toilet and a classy, table-top basin do much to upgrade your standard of living.

Anyone getting ready to renovate their home, or just the kitchen or bathroom, should take time to consider the many positive impacts of upgrading their plumbing and/or fixtures at the same time. This is a key component of at least two rooms in your house, and probably more if you have a laundry room and multiple baths. A good local plumber can give you a wealth of information and many inspiring ideas on how to upgrade your fixtures – so don’t hesitate to call and ask!
